Third Time is a Charm

This trip was my third trip abroad. Previous trips were to Uganda and Ireland. Each night, well almost each night, I wrote in my journal. This time, I tried to do something a little different. I decided I would blog about each day (notice I do not say blog each day.) I took notes in my phone to remind me of what happened, little tidbits and thoughts I had, so when things slowed down, I could write my thoughts and moments. Well, as luck would have it, life wasn't very slow while we were abroad, and it didn't slow down upon our return. So, I have written almost every day in Greece, I have one more to go, and then I will tackle London. A lot happened on this trip and I don't want to rush it or miss anything. So, instead of rushing, I will be putting my overall thoughts here and a link to the blog. I will update this once my other blog is complete. So here are my major thoughts:
Before this class and trip, I wasn't much of an art gal, I love books, plays, and writing, but not art in the sense of paintings, sculptures, rhetoric, etc. This trip taught me so much. It taught me how art can evoke emotions not only in what it shows or says, but in its position, in its placement, and in its surroundings. The Acropolis Museum broke my heart. It hurt to see how much was missing. And the British Museum put a fire inside me. After researching Molly Goodnight, I have found that sometimes art can really make me mad: the injustice, the aspects that are completely unfair, the way you can make or break it with a label. This trip showed me how art can tell so many stories, without even changing one bit. Everything about it tells you something. The brush strokes, the framing, the positioning, the colors, the surroundings, it all adds and retracts from the story. I never saw art this way before, but now I can really see it. My mom was telling me after this that she never really liked art because she couldn't understand it. And for the longest time, I couldn't either. But now I have learned how to read and see art in a different way, a unique way, my way.
This trip really made me think. It made me expand my mind and thought processes. It forced me to focus in on something even when I was exhausted and allow it to tell me its story. As an aspiring novelist, I want to tell stories one day. And now, I have learned a new way to be told stories, and for that, I am forever grateful. I learned a lot. I learned what my stomach can and can't take. I learned that I actually learned something in Digital Photography. And I learned that art history is a lot more interesting than people make it out to be. So without further ado, here is my daily blog, I hope you enjoy and can get a little taste of what each day was like (speaking of taste, you can also check out my food blogs, one before and one after the trip.)
